Research Project: 2
Editing and publishing of the Commentary on Maximus Confessor’s Capita de Caritate
In charge of the Project: Prof. Andreas Zachariou, Director of the Scientific Committee of the Theology and Philosophy Institute
Description:
The Commentary on Maximus Confessor’s Capita de Caritate has been composed by Nicolaus, Bishop of Corfu (12th c.), a personage who is very little known, and is preserved in at least 4 manuscripts, dated from the end of the 13th c. up to the beginning of the 17th c. The type of the comments on Maximus’ writing are not to be found in the Patristic literature and therefore the work of Nicolaus’ of Corfu can be considered as absolutely unique.
Having set up a group of experts, we are currently working on editing (as a textual criticism) the Commentary on Maximus’ Capita de Caritate (transcription of the manuscripts, Introduction (philological and theological comments), general editing, quotation of ancient philosophers, biblical and patristic passages, Index, etc.).
