Nino Mukhadgverdeli
Pontifical University of Salamanca (Spain)
Nino Mukhadgverdeli, a PhD student at Sabauni Doctoral School, spent the fall semester of the 2023–2024 academic year at the Pontifical University of Salamanca (Spain) within the Erasmus+ ICM program. Nino shares her impressions with us.
I had high expectations for this mobility program, as I had to live one semester in my beloved country. Expectations, of course, were justified, as I had the opportunity to carry out a research activity at one of the best Spanish universities. Also, the cultural and social experience I received within the framework of the exchange program was important.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of the exchange programs is the experience of living independently abroad, which in turn helps to develop personal skills. For me, it turned out to be an improvement in the ability to manage time and resources. Naturally, the academic exchange program also helps us to improve our professional skills. Since my mobility was in the research direction, I improved my research skills accordingly. I should mention here that in Georgia and Spain, the student life style and attitude towards studying are quite different. I found that the attitude towards studies and PhD students in Spain is more respectful than in Georgia.
I think the main advantage of the exchange programs is the opportunity to live and research or study in a different society. The student is given the opportunity to learn about different teaching methods and styles and build a personal network. And of course, getting to know another culture personally is one of the most important components. I would advise all students to participate in exchange programs, study the culture of the country, and, of course, use the opportunities offered by the host university.
After returning to Georgia, I will miss the Spanish culture and society the most. Also, Salamanca itself, which is a cozy and very beautiful city with amazingly beautiful architecture and friendly people.
