The center for Social Teaching of the Church
The center for Social Teaching of the Church at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University was founded in December of 2019 and is the only institution, which aims to establish Social Teaching of the Church in the Georgian academic area on the one hand (publishing literature on relevant issues, organizing seminars and conferences, developing teaching programs) and from the other side, to promote it in the wider society (organizing trainings, mediation of teaching in a wide range of different tools).
The Church, based on our own beliefs and the freedom of religion and cultural specificity of all human beings, seeks to bring to the forefront the basic principles, without which the society cannot be called as a humane. These principles are: responsibility for the common good, emphasizing human personality, solidarity and subsidiarity.
The social teaching of the Church is not a purely theological doctrine, but it is based on the theological vision that underpins the principles of community coexistence. It discusses fundamental issues of public life, such as the right of the individual, the place of the family in society, the dignity of human work, the need for ethics and morality in economics and politics, the impact of international relations on peace and freedom, and so on.
