6th International Sympisium “Catholic Heritage in Georgia”
On June 6-7, 2023, Sulkhan-Saba Orbelian University hosted the 6th International Symposium "Catholic Heritage in Georgia". The symposium was opened by the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Georgia, Archbishop Jose Avelino Betencourt, who spoke about the role of the Catholic Church in Georgia's everyday life. He also recalled recently on the successful projects implemented by the embassy of the Holy See.
The participants of the symposium were also welcomed by the founder of the university, the Apostolic Administrator Latin Catholics in Georgia, Reverend Giuseppe Pasotto and the rector of the university, Father Akaki Chelidze.
Before the start of the sessions, the collection of last year's symposium reports was presented by Professor Merab Ghaghanidze, under whose direct editorship the collection is published.
The two-day symposium consisted of several panels, in which the reports were distributed thematically. The reports were arranged according to the topic as follows: modernity, archives and manuscripts of missionaries, Georgian Catholics Abroad, famous Georgian Catholics of the last century, lexicography.
Along with Georgian speakers, professors from Czech, Croatian and French universities participated in the symposium.
Symposium "Catholic Heritage in Georgia" has been held regularly since 2017 and aims to research the heritage of the Catholic Church and its affiliates and raise awareness among the general public.
