The Council of Nicaea: Church Unity and Georgi
On October 1, 2025, Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University hosted an international conference titled “The Council of Nicaea: Church Unity and Georgia”, dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea.
The event brought together theologians, historians, and researchers from Georgia and various other countries. Participants discussed the historical, dogmatic, and cultural significance of the Council of Nicaea, the idea of Christian unity, and its influence on Georgia’s religious and social life.
The conference included panel discussions and thematic presentations, where speakers explored both the historical legacy of the Council and the contemporary challenges related to Christian unity and intercultural understanding. The event placed special emphasis on supporting the development of theological thought in Georgia and on strengthening international academic cooperation.
The purpose of the conference was to reflect on the meaning of the Council of Nicaea in the modern context of church unity, dialogue, and theological collaboration.
The conference was organized in cooperation with Ilia State University and the University of Georgia.
