Mobility of a SabaUni Doctoral Student to Spain
Liana Zagashvili, a doctoral student at SabaUni, spent the spring semester of 2025–2026 in Spain, at the University of Cádiz, under the European Commission–funded Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program.
The semester in Spain turned out to be far more than Liana had expected. As she recalls, it was something of a luxury to be able to concentrate solely on her research and work. The semester also brought her into contact with a professor who later became her co-supervisor.
Now back in Georgia, what Liana misses most is the Spanish people and the free time devoted to research, which, as she notes, means a great deal to students in Georgia.
Asked what she would advise other students, Liana’s answer is courage: “Don’t spend even a second wondering whether it’s worth trying. It is absolutely worth it, because an experience like this is the best way to develop yourself, to raise your self-esteem, and to meet new people. An exchange program is not just going to another country. You become fully a part of that culture and environment. From this perspective, had it not been for this exchange program, I could never have imagined that living alone abroad would be so good,” says Liana.
