Rector of Sabauni pay an official visit to Poland
Sabauni’s rector, prof. Dr. Vaja Vardidze paid an official visit to Poland where he participated in International conference “Where Is Europe Heading Towards”, held in Krakow. Among the participants of the conference were: Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament (video address), Hans-Gert Pottering PhD, President of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation,
former President of the European Parliament, Janusz Lewandoswki PhD, MEP, Co-Chairman of the Polish Delegation in the EP Group in the EP, Ria Oomen Ruijten, President of the Robert Schuman Foundation in Luxemburg, Andrzej Grzyb, MEP, Co-Chairman of the Polish Delegation in the EP Group I the EP, Prof. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of the Madrid Club, former president of Latvia, Abp Salvatore Pennacchio PhD, Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Poland, Mons. Antoine Camilleri, Under-Secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States, Jan Olbrycht PhD, MEP, member of the EP Committee on Budgets, David McAllister, MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Cahriman of the People’s Front, former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Elmar Brok, MEP, ME member of the PE Committee on Foreign Affairs and others.
The conference was divided into four panel sessions: the topic of the first session was Leadership – Does Europe need strong leaderships? Second session was dedicated to Identity and discussion was around the question “will Europe defend its identity based on Christianity”? During the third panel session the speakers were talking about Future of the Europe and the ways to overcome the crisis and fourth session was emphasized on the BREXIT and its consequences.
Prof. Vaja Vardidze took a part in second panel session and in his speech he emphasized on the issue of European Identity and its structural and essential diversity.
The conference was held within the annual International Conference “The role of the Catholic Church in the process of European integration” in which rector of Sabauni participated third times. This year the dean of Sabauni’s Faculty of Social and Humanities, Irakli Tskhadadze also was attended on the conference.
The conference was organized by our partner University, pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Poland and Robert Schuman Foundation in Luxemburg.
During his visit in Poland, rector also has participated in International Interdisciplinary Conference hold in Bydgoszcz on 26-27th of October. The conference was part of International congress “One world Many cultures” and was organized by Kujawo and Pomoroje University of Bydgoszcz. Prof. Vaja Vardidze’s thesis on the conference was “Multicultural identity of Georgia. Epochal changes and overcoming of the Crisis”, during that he spoke about reorientation of national consciousness and the ways of overcoming of the crisis.
The congress was inaugurated on 26th of October. There were number of professors as local higher educational institutions, as invited participants. The Honorary Patronage of this year's event was attended by Dr Jarosław Gowin, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Minister of Science and Higher Education; Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, Metropolitan of Poznan (he was given an award of Honoris Causa); President of the Polish Episcopal Conference, Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province Piotr Całbecki and President of the City of Bydgoszcz Rafał Bruski . The Honorary Presidents of the Congress are prof. Associate. KSUW Helena Czakowska Rector of the Kujawo-Pomoroje University in Bydgoszcz and Padre Federico Lombardi SJ, President of the Vatican Foundation Joseph Ratzinger- Benedict XVI.
The Congress is a continuation of the annual scientific meetings launched in 2010 by the University, aimed at a broader understanding of intercultural dialogue and the exchange of ideas about the problems of the contemporary world among culturists, economists, lawyers, pedagogues, theologians, political scientists, sociologists, historians and anthropologists.
