International Congress on Migration Policy Held at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University
On April 29, 2025, Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University successfully hosted the international congress "Migration Policy and Legal Responses: From the Perspectives of Visegrad, WB, and EAP Countries." This significant event, organized within the framework of the Visegrad Grant Project, fostered a dynamic exchange of knowledge and perspectives among a diverse group of participants.
The congress welcomed representative of Academia and PhD students from Slovakia, Czechia, North Macedonia, and Georgia, all deeply engaged in the critical study of migration policies. Furthermore, the event's reach extended beyond academia, with active participation from representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), public administration officials, and students.
Presentations and discussions at the congress concentrated on several key areas that are crucial to understanding and shaping effective migration policies. A central theme explored the intersection of geopolitics and migration policy, examining how shifting global dynamics influence migration patterns and the responses of various nations. Another vital area of focus was the socio-economic integration of migrant populations, delving into the strategies and support systems necessary for successful inclusion in host countries.
The congress also highlighted research on public attitudes and narratives surrounding migration, recognizing the important role public perception plays in shaping policy and fostering social cohesion. Finally, a significant portion of the discussions centered on the legal frameworks governing asylum and residence, emphasizing the need for fair, just, and effective legal processes that protect the rights of migrants while addressing the concerns of host communities.
By bringing together experts from diverse backgrounds and regions, the congress facilitated a deeper understanding of the multifaceted migration challenges facing the Visegrad, Western Balkans, and Eastern Partnership countries.
