Dean of the Law Faculty Attended the ELFA General Assembly
Professor Georg Goradze, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University (Sabauni), participated in the General Assembly of the European Law Faculties Association (ELFA), held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, from April 23 to 25 of this year. The theme of this anniversary meeting was ''Legal Education Between Modernity and Tradition,'' dedicated to reflecting on the Association’s 30 years of activity.
The General Assembly, hosted by the University of National and World Economy, brought together representatives of law schools, professors, and researchers from across Europe and other parts of the world. The event opened on April 23 with an official reception, followed by two full days of conference sessions.
Participants had the opportunity to engage in five distinct panel discussions that explored a wide range of topics related to legal education from multiple perspectives. These included the role of legal traditions, the impact of emerging technologies, the relationship between legal research and professional practice, evolving student expectations, and the influence of European integration and international cooperation. Panelists represented law faculties and institutions from countries such as Spain, the United States, Bulgaria, Turkey, Kosovo, Georgia, Romania, and the United Kingdom, offering diverse and multi-faceted viewpoints.
On the final day of the Assembly, participants elected a new president and board member. With a majority vote, Professor Gema Tomas Martinez from the University of Deusto’s Faculty of Law was elected to serve as the Association’s president for the upcoming year.
It was also announced that the next ELFA General Assembly will be held from April 15 to 17, 2026, and will be hosted by the University of Deusto in Spain.
